Well into this Batman series now and Snyder is in full control of these characters。 So much so that he puts his own spin on Batman: the Early Years with this flashback storyline, pre-Robin, with a crew-cut Bruce Wayne mostly at odds with James Gordon and the rest of the GCPD who he holds responsible for the murder of his parents。It's a terrific bit of storytelling with a nasty bit of villain-ing from The Riddler and actual consequences and personal growth from our leads。I don't know whether this Well into this Batman series now and Snyder is in full control of these characters。 So much so that he puts his own spin on Batman: the Early Years with this flashback storyline, pre-Robin, with a crew-cut Bruce Wayne mostly at odds with James Gordon and the rest of the GCPD who he holds responsible for the murder of his parents。It's a terrific bit of storytelling with a nasty bit of villain-ing from The Riddler and actual consequences and personal growth from our leads。I don't know whether this version of The Riddler has become canon or even whether the nascent relationships being established here between Batman and Alfred, Gordon and Lucius Fox are part of ongoing continuity, but I liked this very much。 。。。more

Quite honestly as a lifelong Batman fan, one of the best graphic novels in recent memory。 Excellent, top drawer story with good art。 Lots of new insight into young Bruce/Bat and why he does what he does and his relationship with some important people developing, Gordon and Alfred particularly。 Spectacular。

Probably one of the greatest Batman stories and reinventions in superhero comics ever, Batman has to face the Riddler who has taken over Gotham city and has to fight Dr Death and discover how deep the plans of Riddler are, he has trapped everyone and has control of electrical grid and has put Gotham in surveillance, every day someone challenges him with a riddle but he solves them easily and takes them down until Batman teams up with Jim and Lucius to stop this mad man and rescue his city! Its an epic tale that just digs into the core of who Batman is, who Bruce is and what Gotham means to him and why he will never stop saving the city even at the cost of his own life and great cameos! And the ending was sweet and factors in Duke, Harper too! Fantastic story and the art is just mesmerizing and that cover just makes me love Batman forever!! 。。。more

Hope, resilience, and fortitude for our timeThis was truly an enjoyable read with some interesting turns。 A good take on Batman’s formative early years。And surprisingly, a powerful message of hope, resilience, and fortitude for our time。

The best volume of Snyder’s run。 Thought Vol 4 was ok but I was really impressed with this one。 Four stars only because the last third is too complex for its own good and probably should have been a separate volume。

Wow。 Creo que el volumen anterior era simple preparación para éste。 Todo se construye hacia una historia original y que hizo que no logrará soltar el libro de principio a fin

I have the Batman (2011) volumes, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7。 Finally got around to a hard back glossy cover edition of Volume 5。 Wow! What an epic adventure。 Teamed up with Volume 4 and you have a super epic。 Definitely worth keeping。 Super good job in both story and art。 Towards the end it seemed as if I was reading faster and faster, I had to see how it ended!

Gordon with a beard O_OA really good “origin story” for the bat。 Probably the 3rd best so far? I’ll do a definitive ranking after 7。 This had a really cool aesthetic throughout if that makes sense。 It’s up to me now turn on the bright lightsThat lyric hits different after reading this。

Wow! That was the biggest, best, most epic Batman origin tale ever。 Finally displaces Miller's too-long reign in that spot by integrating "The Killing Joke" and Brubaker's The Man Who Laughs into the story, all while focusing on Bruce Wayne as a person and also delivering a cracking Riddler story to boot。Easily sits alongside Birthright and Legend of Wonder Woman as the crown jewels of origin stories for DC's Trinity。 Wow! I literally forgot this was a origin story and was genuinely worried for a bit there。 I love Alfred so much。 He’s so precious。 Also don’t worry, he’ll get his family eventually。

The Riddler is one crazy son of a bitch and he is doing so damn cool, yo! So I'm glad Batman gives the Riddler the boot this time。On the other hand, it's nice to see the young Bruce Wayne dealing with his issues and struggling to find his way to beat the Riddler when Gotham is in a black out, etc still Batman and Gordon's heart to heart really isn't my thing。 It's uncool。 LolI like that young Thomas makes an appearance, yo!Plus I'll admit it, it's refreshing to not having to see The Joker and hi The Riddler is one crazy son of a bitch and he is doing so damn cool, yo! It was bound to happen eventually。I’ve been loving this run so far, but this trade had some relatively dull arcs。 The Riddler stuff was overly confusing and underwhelming。 I sort of liked the Doctor Death story at the beginning, and Greg Capullo’s bone art was gruesome and cool。。。 but Snyder’s plotting just didn’t work as well for me here。 I’m still invested in the run, but I guess I wasn’t really feeling all of the prequelly buzzcut Bruce stuff。 Looking forward to what comes next。

Nakonec to bylo hrozné jen trochu! To co tahá takhle book nahoru je bezpochyby Riddler který tu je napsaný vážně dobře ve stylu Arkham her což je krok správným směrem。 Samozřejmě je to Snyder takže vše je over the top as fuck ale je tu překvapivě pár hezkých nápadů který na to jak strašně tento příběh je dlouhý nejsou rozvedené víc。 Celý Zero Year je vlastně homáž, Secret City je Snyderovský Year One od Millera a Killing Joke, Dark City je takový mix Year One a Dark Knight Returns a Savage City Nakonec to bylo hrozné jen trochu! Alright, this was a good volume。 Although i don't see The Riddler like this megalomaniac character that Snyder painted here。 Everything in his writings are always too much, but i still liked。 But, i need to say, that last pages of the story, when Julie Madison appeared, really, it got me chills。 Snyder wrote one of the best Alfreds of all time。And the art is still great。 Capullo is going down as one of the dark knights bests artists。 Alright, this was a good volume。 Although i don't see The Riddler like this megalomaniac character that Snyder painted here。 Everything in his writings are always too much, but i still liked。 But, i need to say, that last pages of the story, when Julie Madison appeared, really, it got me chills。 Snyder wrote one of the best Alfreds of all time。And the art is still great。 Capullo is going down as one of the dark knights bests artists。 。。。more

Zero Year concludes with Dark City and Savage City, and a re-imagining of wild ass Golden Age villain Dr。 Death。 Death isn't the main focus of the book, but he is a memorable and fun bad guy; the main plotline is concerned with the Riddler stepping out of the shadows to become a true mastermind of the Bond type variety, somehow managing to knock Gotham back to the stone age in a kind-of mini-remake of No Man's Land。 I like that the thesis statement at the end is that being a symbol of hope makes Zero Year concludes with Dark City and Savage City, and a re-imagining of wild ass Golden Age villain Dr。 Death。 Death isn't the main focus of the book, but he is a memorable and fun bad guy; the main plotline is concerned with the Riddler stepping out of the shadows to become a true mastermind of the Bond type variety, somehow managing to knock Gotham back to the stone age in a kind-of mini-remake of No Man's Land。 I like that the thesis statement at the end is that being a symbol of hope makes Batman happy, like those are his actual words。 He does it because he can't imagine anything else bringing him happiness。That's emotionally intense, yet really sweet。 I like that! 。。。more

That was unexpectedThe second volume of the Zero Year arc really focuses on The Riddler。 I feel like I’ve read more Batman comics than the average person but I don’t actually recall how much of The Riddler I’ve encountered。 He seems to appear more on screen due to either his zany inspiration in the movies or interactive puzzles in the Arkham games。 It was pretty cool seeing him be the focus of the story even though I was a bit disappointed in somehow still not getting to know him more in depth。T That was unexpectedThe second volume of the Zero Year arc really focuses on The Riddler。 I feel like I’ve read more Batman comics than the average person but I don’t actually recall how much of The Riddler I’ve encountered。 He seems to appear more on screen due to either his zany inspiration in the movies or interactive puzzles in the Arkham games。 It was pretty cool seeing him be the focus of the story even though I was a bit disappointed in somehow still not getting to know him more in depth。This take on Batman’s start definitely focuses more on the exotic and dare I say even a tad bit sci fi。 It’s odd seeing how the events unfold though not necessarily in a negative way。 It was unexpected but a cool take。 I’m still mulling it over so maybe I will actually love it in the long run but it wasn’t what I was expecting so I’m not IN love with it at the moment。 Definitely excited to jump into Court of Owls now! 。。。more

The first issues are really great, but as the story goes on it becomes a classic Batman vs Riddler story, only with higher stakes, and yet still kind of boring。 Dr Death appears to help the Riddler and to thematically represent Batman's anger towards everyone around him (probably this book's main theme), which is good, but then is quickly taken away from the story once his purpose is fulfilled, in a way that seems pretty abrupt and not well thought out。 The first issues are really great, but as the story goes on it becomes a classic Batman vs Riddler story, only with higher stakes, and yet still kind of boring。 Dr Death appears to help the Riddler and to thematically represent Batman's anger towards everyone around him (probably this book's main theme), which is good, but then is quickly taken away from the story once his purpose is fulfilled, in a way that seems pretty abrupt and not well thought out。 。。。more

Snyder's origin story is basically a mashup of a bunch of Batman stories: Year One, Killing Joke, No Man's Land, Batman Forever, Batman Begins。。。there's barely an original thought except in how to mash all that stuff up。 Whatever they're up to with Battinson has to be better than this。 Snyder's origin story is basically a mashup of a bunch of Batman stories: Year One, Killing Joke, No Man's Land, Batman Forever, Batman Begins。。。there's barely an original thought except in how to mash all that stuff up。 Whatever they're up to with Battinson has to be better than this。 。。。more

Wow, this was awesome! I adored the art and use of colours and the story utterly engrossed me, there was a lot to it but it didn’t feel crowded。 The story moved at a good pace and told a big story without loosing itself in convolutions。 I’m really digging Snyder’s work, especially after the mess that was Morrison’s run!
